A review of Hazeldene Medical Centre by Joseph Heller written on Tuesday 8th of June 2010
You can only book an appointment to be seen on the same day if you phone at 8.30am.
If you phone at 8.30am the lines will be engaged.
Once the lines become free it will no longer be 8.30am, and the surgery will be full for the day.
If you cannot phone at 8.30am and wait for the lines to become clear to book an appointment, when all the appointment slots are already taken, you can phone later in the day.
Phoning later in the day results in being told to phone at 8.30am the next day. If you have an emergency you will be told to go to A&E at your local hospital. Or phone back the next day to book an appointment.
Do not bother to phone in your lunch hour, the surgery is closed from 12noon until 2pm.
Do not try to book an appointment in advance, advance bookings cannot be made over the phone, please phone on the morning when you want to see a doctor, at 8.30am, and make an appointment then.
If on the off-chance you can get past the formiddable gatekeepers and see a member of the surgery, the experience is a very different one. The doctors and nurses there are very friendly, competent and will make you an advanced booking without a moment's hesitation. They are "aware" of the hurdles that patients are faced with when trying to gain access, but seem powerless to break the cycle..
